This project was a final assignment for a technologies for change class at the MFA Design for Social Innovation program at SVA. We were required to make a prototype for a technology that would use AI to address a social problem. I wanted to build social emotional wellness for children from marginalized backgrounds in India to empower them to become responsible, confident and compassionate human beings and use AI and technology to reach the masses.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of acquiring the skills to recognize and manage emotions, develop caring and concern for others, establish positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and handle challenging situations effectively. Research has shown that SEL leads to significant improvement in life outcomes, making students rational decision makers and compassionate beings. The lack of social emotional wellness in children from marginalized backgrounds is generally attributed to the lack of SEL in their schools, as well as parents not giving their children enough time. This deficit results in irresponsible decision making, causing serious problems in the future such as crime, substance abuse, suicide, teen pregnancy, etc. Barriers to access to SEL in Indian schools involve:
